Learn About Natural Healing Methods for Horses

As natural healing becomes ever more popular for Humans, Pam Brownlie has released "Horses and Healing,"a guide to natural healing for Horses. Pam holds a long list of credentials for a wide variety of therapies, several of which she has incorporated into these pages, including herbs, acupuncture, and LED (light emitting diode) photonic light therapy. She'll show you how to apply these natural healing methods to horses.

This guide provides alternatives that can be used when other treatments are not an option, or used with western methods and other treatments to speed healing naturally. Consultation with an informed veterinarian is advised.

Treatments include:

First aid - Shock, Pain, Injury, Dehydration, Colic
Immune System - Stress, Low-Level Infection, Fatigue, Trauma
Respiratory System - Colds, Coughs
Arthritis - Stiffness, Discomfort, Inflammation Around Joints
Soreness - Neck or Back, Uneven Top Line, Tenderness

For each condition there is a list of helpful herbs with corresponding page numbers for descriptions of each herb, key points for applying acupressure or LED, and treatment guidelines. The horse model used is a photo of a real horse in color, giving a more 3-D effect than the typical drawing of a horse. Acupuncture point locations are denoted with color-coded dots and in some cases labeling to further explain the location and use.

"Horses and Healing" also discusses internal and external uses of herbs with basic instructions for how to make an infusion (tea), tincture, compress, poultice, and liniment. Essential oils are briefly discussed, including helpful tidbits on usage, and cautions. Pam gives a simple introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine and explains how acupuncture, acupressure, and LED (light) therapy can each help the body and how they can be used to treat the acupuncture system, safely and effectively.

Though compact in size, "Horses and Healing" contains a large amount of useful information. It is nicely constructed with ring binding to conveniently lie flat when open. This book is uncomplicated, user-friendly, and unique. It is also one of the few texts that includes LED therapy. It is the perfect handbook for horse owners who want help at their fingertips - literally - with a quick, easy guide of natural ways to help their horses.

Within these glossy, durable pages the reader will find a table of contents, a brief introduction to each type of therapy mentioned, and a glossary of 30 herbs, herb blends/ mixtures, essential oils, and flower essences, including their actions, uses, suggestions on amounts, and ways to administer or apply. Also included are five interesting case histories, and various conditions treatable with herbs, acupressure, and LED. There are Bibliography and Resources lists at the end.
